Principle of LIBS

This website is about promoting the use of Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy. Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy is widely known as LIBS or LIPS (Laser Induced Plasma Spectroscopy). This technique offers qualitative and quantitative elemental analysis with a spectral range of 200 - 980 nm.

Laser-induced Breakdown Spectroscopy, Elemental Analysis
Laser-induced breakdown phenomena were observed just after the invention of the laser in 1961. Initial work was focused on understanding the various mechanisms involved in the process. As the material is atomized and excited at the high temperature of laser spark plasma, the potential for using LIBS for elemental analysis was soon recognized by many researchers.
